Services and Transactions
OBG's "Public Notice" Services facilitate the posting of public notices by responsible parties of state and local government entities in Ohio to the State Public Notice website: PublicNotice.Ohio.gov. There is no charge for posting public notices to the State Public Notice website via the OBG, and such postings may reduce newspaper posting costs when posted in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 7.16.
Use of the OBG to post public notices is limited to Ohio public entities, such as:
- Cities, Municipalities & Townships
- Colleges and Universities
- County Agencies and Elected Officials
- School Districts
- State Agencies and Elected Officials
A public entity must be a registered with the Ohio Business Gateway before OBG Electronic Filing can be used to electronically file, edit or revoke a public notice.

Steps for filing a public notice
- Verify your profile information. This information assists the public in narrowing down their search results on PublicNotice.Ohio.gov. Any changes to this information will be reflected in future notices.
- Create the public notice
- Confirm the Public Notice / complete the transaction
The public notice content consists of three fields, all of which are required:
- Notice Type: select from the dropdown list the category that best characterizes the notice. If none of the categories fits, select "Other." This field will assist the public in narrowing down their search results by notice type.
- Publish Date: this is the date the notice will first appear in the public-facing search site. The publish date may be from 1 to 30 days in the future.
- Public Notice Content: this field contains the text that makes up the public notice.
Once you have filled out the public notice content and click "Next" you will see a confirmation page and have the opportunity to go back and make changes. Clicking on "Accept Data" will take you back to the home page, and your notice will be ready for checkout.
Once you have completed the checkout process, your notice will be published as entered to the Ohio Public Notice website on the publish date you specified, unless you go back and edit or revoke the notice beforehand.
The confirmation page will contain a link to a receipt. The public notice receipt on the confirmation page contains the Public Notice ID Number. You will need this number if you decide to go back and edit or revoke the notice.
Steps for editing or revoking an unpublished public notice
- Enter the Public Notice ID# of the public notice to be edited or revoked
- Edit or revoke the public notice
- Complete the transaction
Unpublished public notices may be edited or revoked up until one day prior to the publish date. In order to edit or revoke a notice, you will need the Public Notice ID Number for that notice (found on the receipt when you filed the public notice). You can also find this number on your "File a Public Notice" receipt accessible via "History" on the main menu.
If you select "Edit" you will repeat the process of filing a public notice, but all of the fields will be pre-populated, and you will have the chance to edit them. Clicking on "Accept Data" on the confirmation page will take you back to the home page, and your notice will be ready for checkout.
If you select "Revoke" you will see a confirmation page with all of the information on the notice to be revoked. Clicking on the "Revoke" button will take you back to the home page, and your notice will be ready for checkout.
If you do not go through checkout, any edit or revoke actions to your notice will not take effect and the notice will be published in its original form (neither edited nor revoked).
Once you have completed the checkout process, your notice will either be published as edited (if edited) to the Ohio Public Notice website on the publish date you specified, or not published at all (if revoked).

Public Notice services are subject to the OBG Terms of Services. The Public Notice services are subject to the following additional terms:
I acknowledge that only Ohio government entities are authorized to use the Ohio Business Gateway to post public notices and affirm that I am using the Ohio Business Gateway public notice functions on behalf of an Ohio government entity.
I acknowledge that as a user of the Ohio Business Gateway for the purpose of posting public notices on the State of Ohio Public Notice website, it is my responsibility to ensure that notices displayed on the website conform to the requirements that would apply to the notices if they were being published in a newspaper, as directed in section 7.16 of the Ohio Revised Code or in the relevant provision of the statute or rule that requires the notice.
I also acknowledge that it is my responsibility to ensure that notices continue to be displayed on the website for not less than the length of time required by the relevant provision of the statute or rule that requires the notice. I am aware of the fact that notices on the State of Ohio Public Notice website only remain active and displayed for 60 days. As a result of this, I acknowledge that if a notice is required to be displayed for more than 60 days, it is my responsibility to resubmit the notice on the State of Ohio Public Notice website to ensure that it continues to be displayed on the website for not less than the length of time required.
